Eliezer Cometh

I once wrote about the encounter of Rebekah at the well with Eliezer, the servant of Abraham who took her for wife for his master’s son Isaac. (Gen 24)

I emphasized the lesson on consistency, and how the Bible said the women came to the well at a certain hour DAILY. Thus the coincidence of the meet wasn’t very out of this world. God took advantage of the virtue of consistency to change Rebekah’s destiny. He didn’t send Angel Gabriel to tell her, “Lo, run to the well now. There’s a guy who’ll take you to your husband!” — No!

God added kairos (the time of purpose) to that chronological activity.

Question is: what is your well? Is it that job? Is it practising your talent without any applause or audience? Is it ushering in church — cleaning the toilets? Is it praying at a specific hour God told you?

Years have gone by, and you are tempted not to go to that well today . . . but what if today is the day Eliezer comes and he finds you not! You see Eliezer represents your next opportunity; your promotion; your spouse (or meeting ticket thereof); your breakthrough; or your next big chapter.

Far be it from thee that you grow weary! Be strengthened! May His mercies be new for you today! Don’t give up! Keep at it! Eliezer cometh!

Eliezer means ‘helper’. In essence it could represent the Holy Spirit. But in our case, it represents that destiny helper who’ll get out of their way, tread the path of discomfort, just to pave a road for you to the palace!

Ah, don’t give up! Eliezer cometh!

Come now, let’s go to the well AGAIN!

Our timing is not God’s timing. I will keep going to the well.
